TriMet adds more service on popular bus line
Starting Sunday, June 1, riders will see buses arriving more often on one of TriMet’s most popular bus lines in Gresham.
Line 87-Airport Way/181st will become the 19th bus line in TriMet’s Frequent Service network. Buses on Frequent Service lines arrive every 15 minutes or better for most of the day, every day.
Line 87 connects the Centennial, Rockwood and Wilkes East neighborhoods in Gresham with the Gateway/NE 99th Ave Transit Center in Portland, where riders can transfer between bus and the MAX Blue, Green and Red lines.
Also included in the June 1 service update is a route adjustment for Line 87. The bus line will now also serve the Parkrose/Sumner Transit Center. This new route will improve connections between bus and MAX service.
Ridership has been strong on Line 87, which now provides more trips in an average week than it did before the COVID-19 pandemic. The line serves major employment centers in the Columbia Corridor — including North Gresham — as well as Centennial High School, the Mt. Hood Community College Maywood Park Campus and other destinations.
Line 87 becomes the first new addition to TriMet’s Frequent Service network since 2023. Three other bus lines that serve Gresham — FX2-Division, Line 9-Powell Blvd and Line 20-Burnside/Stark — are also Frequent Service lines.
