Description
Join the Center For The Arts Foundation at Music Mondays at the Arts Plaza with The Bylines.
Portland's The Bylines exists in a unique musical plane, one at once grounded in the big-band past of pop performances and rooted in a present realm of intricate and catchy songwriting. The group is equally at home in velvet-curtained jazz halls, large rooms and intimate venues. As lovers of the American Songbook from the 1930s to today, they cover everything from Cole Porter to Adele, from Randy Newman to Regina Spektor. Their original tunes are influenced by the writers and performers that have shaped popular music throughout the last century and their on-stage chemistry is addictively charismatic. With Marianna Thielen on lead vocals and snare and Reece Marshburn on piano and background vocals, the duo seamlessly transitions from a poetic Leonard Cohen piece, to a swinging Louis Prima song, to a modern Bruno Mars tune without batting an eye...keeping audiences of all ages and backgrounds engaged.
The Bylines released their latest album, Day & Night on March 7, 2020. It is available on all major streaming platforms. It features their Septet and special guests from 3 Leg Torso and Fear No Music. Visit thebylines.com for songs and videos.
The Bylines have opened for Randy Newman at the Britt Festival, played in venues across the country from Los Angeles to New York City, and worked as entertainers onboard the Star Clipper cruise ship that set sail from Venice, Italy. They’ve written music and lyrics for 3 musicals for Northwest Children’s Theatre and 3 mini musicals for the Live On Stage/Fertile Ground-produced Mini Musical Festival. They are also in their third year of the Lullaby Project, a Carnegie Hall created project that pairs songwriters and Oregon Symphony musicians with parents who are experiencing homelessness to create lullabies for their children.
While at the event enjoy dinner from local vendors or a beer or wine from Hoppy Brewer. Family-friendly FREE concerts for all in the community.
